Ancestral Forest Privacy Policy

Our Commitment To Privacy

Ancestral Forest is strongly committed to the protection of our members' privacy. This statement explains our on-line information practices. To make this statement easy to find, there is a link to this statement from every page on our website where personally identifiable information may be collected.

The Information We Collect

We collect details about you during registration: your name, address and e-mail address so that we have alternative methods of contact, should the need arise.

Ancestral Forest uses 'cookies'. A cookie is a small file, which is placed on your computer's hard drive if your computer has been set to allow cookies to be collected (this is not unusual - many web applications use cookies). Cookies enable web applications like Ancestral Forest to recognise you as an individual and tailor their behaviour to your preferences. For example, Ancestral Forest uses cookies to remember which individual on your family tree you were viewing the last time you signed into Ancestral Forest to save you having to search for that individual again.

The Information We DON'T Collect

We do not collect credit and debit card information.

We use PayPal to process payments for your subscriptions. PayPal use a secure server, encrypt your debit/credit card details and authorise payment directly with your card issuer. Therefore we don't know (or need to know) your debit/credit card details.

The Way We Use Information

We use your registered e-mail address to answer e-mails we receive, send newsletters (if you opt to receive them), to inform you of progress in registering and to keep you up to date with any significant changes to the service we provide. Your registered e-mail address is not used for any other purpose and is not shared with outside parties.

We never use your personally identifiable information other than to manage your account and we will not share this information with third parties except where disclosure is required or permitted by law (for example to government bodies and law enforcement agencies).

The information you add to your family tree is only available to you and your invited guests, except for the name, year of birth and place of birth of non-living relatives. These are only available to registered full members via our 'Search' facility. Search results are listed against the owner's user name, protecting your identity. Your real name and e-mail address are never disclosed.

Ancestral Forest provides links to other web sites as part of our 'Useful Links' option within our 'New To Genealogy?' guide. We are not responsible for their privacy policies or practices.

Our Commitment To Data Security

We have put in place physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we hold on-line on your behalf to prevent unauthorised access.

How You Can Access Or Correct Your Information

The information we collect about you as a member during registration is accessible from the 'My Homepage' option within your personal Ancestral Forest account. From there you can view and/or change the details if you think they are incorrect.

How To Contact Us

Should you have any questions or concerns about this privacy policy, you can use our 'Contact' web-page.
